This section provides a brief summary of the legislation administered by DEC.

1. Environment Act, 2000
   An Act that provides the administrative mechanism for environmental impact assessment and evaluation of activities regulating impacts on the receiving environment through an established environment approval and permitting system.
   


2. National Parks Act (1984)
   It provides the mechanism for the management and control of protected areas in PNG including flora and fauna
   


3. Conservation Areas Act (1978)
   It provides the mechanism for the management and control of resources in protected areas including flora and fauna and sites of cultural and historical importance
   


4. Fauna (Protection and Control) Act 1966
   It provides the mechanism for the protection and control of faunal species involved in International Trade activities
   


5. International (Fauna and Flora) Trade Act (1978)
   It provides the mechanism for the control of exploration and importation and introduction of flora and fauna from the sea, whether dead, alive, their by-products, parts or derivatives.
   


6. Crocodile Trade (Protection) Act (1978)
   It provides the mechanism for the management and control of crocodile exports and other related activities.
